Argentina who suffer a defeat to Brazil in the semi final of the on going copa America made a clash in the third place against the defending champion, Chile who lost to Peru. After two previous final against Argentina were the Chilean side won the two there was a great clash last night.
Less than 22 minutes of play Lionel Messi was sent off for the first time in 14 years by Mario Diaz de Vivar. Argentina who had an early lead against Chile with 2-0 ahead before the match hit a new flashpoint as Messi and Gary Medel were both sent off after a perceived head-to-head incident between the Argentine captain and Chile’s hatchet man.
It was Messi’s first red since an Argentina friendly against Hungary on Aug. 17, 2005. He has never been sent off for Barcelona.
Lionel Messi angrily skipped the Copa America medal ceremony and accused referees of “corruption” following Argentina’s failure to win the tournament and his rare red card as they beat Chile 2-1 in third-place, Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Messi in an interview said “It’s a play that happens a lot. [Medel] always plays to the limit. I think the referee overreacted. With a yellow card for both of us, everything would be over,”
